Destino Indomable review
This visual novel literally slaps
Although familiarity with telenovelas isn’t a requisite for appreciating Destino Indomable, its undoubtedly beneficioso. Developers RCK Games and Megalixir Games visual novel begins with players selecting a likeness, wardrobe, and name for their protagonist. But despite the ability to adjust everything from body type, hairstyle, and eye shape, her character portrait doesn’t change or even emote across the five-to-seven-hour storyline.
The game begins with your arriving on the set of the eponymous telenovela, which is about to start shooting with a half-finished script. Although the bulk of Indomable’s five in-game episodes provide the characteristic plot twists, melodrama, and delightfully outlandish behavior of the genre, your dialog choices must keep audiences involved while not upsetting your costars.
Patron Saint Luchadores and Other Delights
Notably, progression is less focused on meeting an objective and more about seeing where your decisions lead. So go and slap that heartthrob you’re sharing a steamy scene with. Just don’t be surprised if they’re smitten by the sudden smack. I just wish that Estrella Romero (that’s the name I gave my budding TVyNovelas winner) wasn’t too expressionless.
At home, you’re caring and working to purchase prescription drugs for your secretly ailing father, which balances against the outrageousness on-set. In front of the camera, there’s everything from luchadores to secret liaisons, criminal activity to chisme, mirroring the addictive absurdity of real-life novelas.
And with everything from animated opening sequences to post-episode interviews with cast members on Que Lata, an in-game tabloid-style show, the developers seize every satirical opportunity. Certainly, it’s entertaining to see Indomable’s cast emerge from their role and reveal their secondary personalities, as they vie for audience votes. At least part of the game’s success hinges on an English language localization that injects the intermittent Spanish word or phrase into the script.
Five Endings, Countless Plot Twists
Although the game injects a bit of voice acting, it’s largely limited to words or short phrases. And when it comes to artwork, Indomable delivers an admirable effort, but falls short of the detail and vibrancy found in many Asian visual novels. Despite these blemishes, if you enjoy a scheming matriarch or a salacious love triangle, you can download a demo before committing yourself to the Montenegro de la Vega Hacienda.

Buena
With its satirical take on telenovels, Destino Indomable offers some outrageous laughs, as you ad-lib your way through five episodes in RCK Games and Megalixir Games’ visual novel. Let’s just hope that the lead character shows more expression if Indomable returns for another season.
Why would it be “buena” isn’t of “beuno” ?
