Rob’s Pick: Doesn’t everyone love Tony Hawk-style stunting while taking down the establishment? Before you answer that, take a look at Parcel Corps. In Billy Goat Entertainment (Her Majesty’s SPIFFING)’s latest effort you serve as a bike courier. But it’s more than just a blend of Jet Set Radio’s cell-shading with hectic Crazy Taxi-style duties. There’s also storytelling that skewers everything from the tech industry to influencer culture. The industry needs more punk and less product.

As a big fan of Resogun and Nex Machina, I’m always looking for tense arcade action, taut controls, with a side of trippy visuals. This week, the console release of Kill Knight seems to have most of those criteria covered. If you’re a fan of intense isometric shooters give this crimson-soaked title a look. Ryan and Matt, you guys are making me wish I could appreciate horror games.

Ryan’s pick: I’ve never been known to shy away from horror or psychological thriller games, so the clear winner this week is the remake of Silent Hill 2. I completely missed this one when it was first released in fall 2001, so I can’t think of a better way to start off my October and to tide me over until the Diablo IV expansion hits next week. I absolutely cannot wait to see what Pyramid Head looks like in the remake, so count me in.

SAO still has a place in my heart as it was my first isekai anime series. While many fans out there swear their allegiance to Asuna, I personally like Leafa the most and I’m happy to see that she’s one of the 21 playable characters in Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream. I’m definitely curious to see how the raid encounters will work as the game allows up to 20 players to join for online co-op. My fingers are crossed that the mechanics and online connectivity portion are good, which should hopefully keep the playerbase interested and active.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I have no idea if Bloober Team is up to remaking Silent Hill 2. This is one of the all-time great horror games, with one of the most intensely intelligent narratives. I enjoy their games more than many, but still, this is a big, big task. But whether it’s brilliant or terrible I just have to know for myself, so Silent Hill 2 is my pick of the week.

Otherwise, I’m a big fan of rhythm games, and I*CHU: Chibi Edition looks like a good one. Blending rhythm games and visual novels together is a natural fit.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. I would like to play the new Silent Hill 2 but I ended up selling my PS5. I guess I’ll play SH2 on my Odin 2.

  2. Expected a D4 update from Ryan….

    I’ve been waiting for a long time for SH2. I can’t believe it’s finally here. Let’s hope Blooper didn’t release a blooper.
