New Releases 11/28-12/4: No Stranger to Danger Edition

Between helming a commercial crab-fishing boat in dangerous waters, playing an imperative part in the Battle of Berlin, and racing over mountainous courses at breakneck speeds, many of this week’s new releases are bound to produce tragedy. For those less thrilled to ride the paths to injury, there’s always a cartoon mouse and kitty which also are seeking guidance.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Beyond a few niggling camera issues, Disney’s Epic Mickey is everything I anticipated. Combining Super Mario Galaxy-inspired platforming, a bit of Portal-light puzzling with decades of Disney lore had me awake through the A.M. hours. Welcome back, Mr. Spector- it’s been too long.

  1. I love the generic titles: Spellforce 2: Faith in Destiny and 7 Wonders 2…

    Is that 14 wonders?

  2. I might say Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, but I don’t know if it going to be just another JRPG.

  3. Not really sure what you expect. New Release lists are just a statement of facts. It is, by definition, a list of the games that have been confirmed for release during the week of November 28th…I mean, if you want our information to be different from other New Release lists, I suppose I can make some shit up…

    Hey, you know what?
Super Metroid 2: The Metroidening. Confirmed for this week on the SNES!

Monster Hunter HD for the PS3? Confirmed.

    Earthworm Jim 4 on XBLA?
    Confirmed. Buy it on Wednesday.

Did that make our article any more useful and original?

  4. Yea, my bad. Thanksgiving exile.

My pick would have been Golden Sun, because Camelot is, was and always will be one of my favorite JRPG developers. It’s a shame that they only make one every 5 years or so – I personally could do without another Mario Golf title, if it means a new Shining Force-style game from Camelot.

  5. I don’t see what’s different from Camelot’s JRPGs and all the other ones who don’t seem to like all that much.

  6. I don’t disagree – JRPGs need to do something to grab my attention, and they haven’t been doing it for a while. The last JRPG that I genuinely enjoyed was Wild Arms 5 – which I always argue is a terribly underrated game, if only for the great characters and setting.
But still, that was 3 years ago. It’s been 7 years since the last Camelot RPG, and I really enjoy those. Their tone is just different enough – we’ll see.
