New Releases 12/5-12/11: Derezzed Edition

Whether your preference is a low slung Ducati with a 0-60 of less than two and a half seconds, or a neon-hued lightcycle capable of emitting a jetwall exhaust, this week’s releases offer all sorts of thrills to crotch rocket fans. For players with no interest in careening across tarmac- Azeroth has been transformed by the rebirth of Deathwing the Destroyer. This week’s release of World of WarCraft: Cataclysm is certain to renew interest with the mammoth MMORPG.

DesertEagle’s Pick: For players who have pre-ordered the $130 collector’s edition of TRON: Evolution, I’d hope the game (and the model lightcyle) live up to the expectations of a premium-priced product. With mixed reports on the quality of TRON‘s gameplay, I’m giving a cautious half-nod to the standard edition of the title.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: It’s that time off year again; the time of year when
everything worth playing has already been released. I wanted to suggest
TRON, but after reading the prerelease buzz, I don’t want to be held
responsible if one of our readers picks it up. So……..Yogi Bear?

  1. If you buy Tron you fill your recommended daily requirement for the color blue. You might even OD.

  2. “Hey Boo-Boo, why don’t we get some picnic baskets and stuff our face cause I cant live with the fact that we are being sold out while corner hos. Must be the work of my Agent, Ranger Smith”

  3. Sniper Elite got delayed to the battlefield? Why is it these low-profile Wii games miss their schedule over and over again?

  4. as someone whose taken both Yoga and Pilates classes there’s no way a Wii game can show you the proper form and let you know if you’re making a mistake. Maybe with Kinect, but now with the Wii.

  5. Nope, it’s “transer” upholding the video game principal of making up words for titles. (Infinite Undiscovery, anyone)

You still get a cookie, though.

  6. From what I’ve heard smaller publishers don’t have the resources to get these out the gate as quickly as the big corporations.

Nintendo makes publishers pay for their DS cartridges in advance- I’d assume Wii disks follow the same rules. Thats means a minimum of $100,000 just to get your game pressed. Then you have to worry about distribution, marketing, and getting retailers to find a place on crowded store shelves.

  7. looks that way. I like the idea of game having a custom Wii version instead of scaling a game down.

Now, just give me the Tron arcade game on VC and I’ll be fine.

  8. Sean, you really suggest Yogi freakin’ Bear? Have you lost your mind or do you know something that I don’t?

  9. This was the first review I saw posted. Granted, Dustin tends to be a little heavy-handed with his scores, but the story told is that it doesn’t live up to the high expectations that we’ve set for it.

I didn’t think it was unfair to assume that Disney could make Tron into a great game. I mean, that’s what the movies were designed for, and after Epic Mickey, Pure and Split/Second were so great, I figured that Disney was back in their 16-bit glory days. Hearing that the game I really WANTED to be great was below average, even if just slightly, was a major bummer for me.

Don’t get me wrong: I’ll still check it out and form my own opinions, but I didn’t want to suggest it and be responsible for someone else’s deep, dark depression.

  10. The guy said they were four different types of moves, then called it simplistic. What did he want a TRON-rpg with 50 weapons that change your stats? Its an action game for crying out loud!

  11. Ok- heres what I got out of the review.

Reviewer didn’t like the PoP remake so much so he didn’t like this. Controls were a little off. Still, I don’t think Disney who seems to be on an upswing would put out a crappy game and ruin the progress they’ve made.

  12. “Granted, Dustin tends to be a little heavy-handed with his scores”

@SeanNOLA who can follow the new people 1Up hire and fire every week.

  13. I picked up Tron last night. Know what I’m going to have to side with that D+ review. It is a combination of about 10 other better games with a Blue Tron skin. I’m 6 hours in and pretty bored already.
