New Releases 2/21-2/27: Chance of Heavy Rain Edition

This week’s new releases seemed to be highly polarized. On one end of the spectrum, there are diversions to appease all types of jingoists- from the tactics of Napoleon: Total War to the ‘freedom via the fire button’ escapades of Marco Rossi’s paramilitary unit. Those uninterested in the gravity of conflict might appreciate the games on the other side of the dichotomy. Here, skirmishes are shirked for a friendly lap around the Green Hill Zone or a jovial jaunt with the Jamaican bobsled team.

DesertEagle’s Pick: While the title may not be as relevant to DS owners who have runned, gunned, and completed Metal Slug 7, I am excited for the additional features of Metal Slug XX. With 70 trial based missions in ‘Combat School’, cooperative multiplayer, and a $20 price point, this title seems irresistible.

SeanNOLA’s Pick
: I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.  Although my fervor for the title has been considerably diluted over time, I am nevertheless interested to see how the final cut turns out.  I am almost more excited about the discussions I will have about Heavy Rain than I am about playing the actual game.

TideGear’s Pick
: Even my name, TideGear, evidences that I’ve always had a fascination with the ocean and, more specifically, exploration thereof. For this reason,
Endless Ocean: Blue World is my pick this week. Having not played the first one, but having heard many good things, it may be time to dive in. Still, other titles like Metal Slug XX and Greed Corp have definitely caught my attention.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. “I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.”

I’m sick about hearing about it too. Enough already!

  2. Man, I hate that I have a bunch of bills rolling in this week, I really wanted to pick up Heavy Rain. Hopefully I can find a way to curb my expenses to pick it up soon.

  3. Are you trying to trick us with the trivia question? Is it a DLC release, cause those have no screenshots.

  4. I haven’t got a chance to play the game yet, but two colleagues were a bit indifferent toward it, hence my hesitation.

Plus I’m sucker for the Metal Slug games; in a perfect world, the Contra series would still be making awesome 2D epics.

  5. Where’s Tide’s picks? HAHAHA

Seriously, why haven’t I heard of Risen or Deadly Premonition?

  6. what the rating on Lovely Lisa and Friends? Is it’s a “M” I’m there!

Will probably get Metal Slug XXX, I mean XX then!

  7. Yeah, when you start lagging on the first turn of your demo youre in trouble. Attacks just slowed me down though, no biggie.

  8. Endless Ocean: Blue World with a Wiispeak for $30 isn’t bad at all. Probably what I’ll be getting.

  9. Man, everyone seems to be hating Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. I liked the demo, it wasn’t bad at all. Just a bit too hard.

  10. Thanks for the list, this was exactly what I was looking for. Do you have extended lists that go into the future as well?

  11. This week, I’m going with Pony Friends 2. Because horses can be great pals!

Editor’s Note: No, this really isn’t Adam, but I left the comment stand, as I made me snicker. However, this will cease to be funny the second time this type of joke is done.

  12. Haha, nooo, but I congratulate all my pony-appreciating friends on yet another game devoted to their cause!

  13. OOOHHH!! I’m totally looking forward to Heavy Rain, maybe last rebellion and deadly premonition. L.R. and D.P. I haven’t heard much about, and will probably rent. But I really want to try out heavy rain 😀

  14. I think I will pick up Heavy Rain this week.
If I had a DS Hello Kitty: Birthday Adventures would be my #1.

  15. I think Heavy Rain will be a one time rental kind of game for me. It doesn’t sound like it’ll have too much replay value.

  16. “I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.”

I thankfully have been immersed with so many other things I haven’t heard all the day to day updates. Now that its here I have been paying a little closer attention.

Everything I hear is a love it or hate it game. Either a lot of the minor bugs tweaks, roughly designed button variances, and controls will get under your skin or the won’t. With all that being said its something different, and therefore worthy of at least a try.

  17. Woot, I can’t wait for Heavy Rain. I know it’s released, but I haven’t had a chance to pick up my copy.

  18. Heavy rain sounds amazing, and I too am glad the game’s finally out after all these years of waiting and hype (and from what I hear, it lives up to the hype)

I only hope I can say the same for Episode 3 or Duke Nukem Forever :S

  19. Another once thats seeing a slew of great releases as well as some great cult hits like Deadly Premonition and the Last Rebellion both of which I hope to pick up. I also eagerly anticipate Napoleon Total War since the Total War series is and has been one of my favorite strategy games since I played Medieval Total War. My favorite in the series so far has been Rome Total War though.
Also, Heavy Rain seems like its got alot of people eager to buy it, which is good since I want to support Quantic Dream for releasing such a innovative new IP!

  20. I have been waiting on this game to come out. From what I have seen of the reviews it should be a good one.
