New Releases 3/28-4/3: Sushi, Samurai and Swimsuits Edition

This week sees the return of some familiar faces- from the reliable Blue Bomber to the garlic and explosive-loving antihero of the Mushroom Kingdom, and even everyone’s favorite sailor turned ninja. Although Japanese gamers have already acquainted themselves with the 14 year-old Sakura Wars series of games, this week marks the first time American players have been able to bask in the franchise’s steam-powered world without relying on a premium priced import.

DesertEagle’s Pick: As someone who likes to dabble in game design, but the lacks the requisite programming finesse, WarioWare: D.I.Y is certain to occur my DS slot for a few weeks. Those on my friends list can expect a steady output of minigames centering around poorly rendered guns and and crude explosions.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Now that Sakura Wars: So Long My Love is finally coming to America, I can finally scratch “Play a Game That Combines Giant Robots and Broadway Musicals” off of my bucket list. Secondary kudos go out to Samurai Shodown SEN, for once again allowing players to hack-n-slash with both sword and dog.

TideGear’s Pick: This week I seem to be possessed by the souls of both DesertEagle and SeanNOLA. I’ve been a fan of WarioWare from the beginning, and I’m ready to hear Ol’ Garlic Breath’s cackle again. Here’s hoping the D.I.Y. aspects are fairly deep. My pick, however, is Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love. Mecha combat wrapped in a quirky shell sounds like my kind of scene. However, I’m not keen on dating sims, and I’m hoping those aspects are more optional.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. De, you were supposed to pick Sakura Wars. No hell has frozen over. Look what you have done.

  2. Both Dead or Alive Paradise and Mimana: Iyar Chronicle in the same wek? A weird week for PSP games.

  3. 1up used to plug the hell out of again, but then everyone left and they never mentioned the game again.

  4. is Prison Break: The Conspiracy supposed to be any good? Is the show still on Fox?

  5. I hope you guys review Dance Sensation. Dont forget the exclaimation point! In fact! put a few extra in for good!!! measure!!!!!!!!!

  6. SNOLA’s all about the dog lately. First a Pokewalker for dogs, no a SSS nod.

    Hopefully, Adam likes cats.

  7. Another week of good but not great titles. I can wait for a price drop for most of them.

  8. You guys are more source of New Release info since the CAG Foreplay ship got sunk.

  9. is the premium edition of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love for the PS2 or Wii? Is this games supposed to be one of the better RPGs?

  10. I’ll probably get Dead or Alive Paradise if there any difference between the console version.

  11. Glad to see Monster Rancher is back. Hopefully, you’ll be able to scan barcodes with the DSI camera in this one.

  12. Cabela’s Monster Buck Hunter might interest SNOLA if they took they got the buck outta there.

  13. I saw one review of Samurai Shodown SEN that was brutal 4.8/10. Said it had 30 sec. load times before matches.

  14. Another so so week of stuff I don’t need to waste my money on.

Until, of course, it drops in price.

  15. What kind of game is Prison Break: The Conspiracy?

What will you guys review this week?

  16. I’m waiting for America’s Meth Kitchen: Let’s Get Cooking, with enough explosions and police breaches to satisfy DE’s ass.

  17. WarioWare: D.I.Y. could be C.O.O.L.

Hopefully not all the games have to use the stylus, and can be button or d-pad based.
