New Releases 4/11-4/17: Bathroom Brawling Edition

In the darkened recesses of this week’s new releases, it appears that consummate hero Sam Fisher has eliminated most of his competition, sparing only a handful of PC titles and revisiting IP’s. Fortunately, the former Third Echelon agent displayed to the rest of April- Monster Hunter Tri and Dead to Rights: Retribution continue to loom on the horizon.

DesertEagle’s Pick: With the exception of the 2005’s middling Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Tom Clancy’s console titles have rarely disappointed. Hopefully, Splinter Cell Conviction will follow that lineage; the demo certainly left me optimistic (and eager) for the full game. I might also have to pick up Final Fight: Double Impact, if only for my love of Magic Sword.

SeanNOLA’s Pick
: After spending what some would call “too much” time playing all three Streets of Rage games over the past few months, I’m really looking forward to playing Final Fight: Double Impact.  Although Blood Bowl has been available for the PSP for 6 months in Europe, I’m happy to see it finally hit US shores.  It’s nice that Games Workshop is finally taking video games seriously again – maybe my dream of Space Wolf: The Game isn’t so far off after all…

TideGear’s Pick: I’m a huge stealth fan. I imagine I’ve been using the word “stealth” as a game genre for longer than most gamers have. While Metal Gear is my favorite game series of all time, I definitely enjoy Splinter Cell‘s take on stealth gameplay as well. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is also notable for having one of the few multiplayer experiences I’ve ever loved. I’m a bit worried about Conviction‘s tone change, but hopefully it will give the series’ fiction the shot of creativity it’s needed. That’s my pick, but I’m also intrigued by some of the lower-profile PC games this week.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. They’re not making Splinter Cell: Conviction for the PS3, those stinking bastards?!?

  2. Thank god for Rig’n’Roll. I was just asking for a 18 wheeler driving game!

  3. I hope the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City is more than an average port.

  4. My question for the podcast- is it really that heard to write a pick of the week 😉

  5. I’ll be reviewing the PSP version, come hell or high water. I tried to get a copy of the PC version when it came out last summer, but it didn’t work out.

  6. I hope it’s good or at least some improvements were made in the last six months.

  7. I actually had a dream I was fighting dinosaurs the other night. When I woke up, I realized it was very MH- there were three others with me and I was using a melee weapon. But the dinos looked bigger!

  8. Whats’ this, some DS and Wii game have appeared?

Oh, it’s DLC. And pretty week stuff at that. Except for Military Madness.

  9. What a crappy week. I have no interest in Splinter Cell. The demo was a bore that played itself.

  10. Don’t tell me that. I just bought the game and I’m on my way home to play it.
