New Releases 4/18-4/24: Panic Diving Edition

Despite the latest Wii iteration selling over a million copies in Japan, the Monster Hunter series has never found widespread acceptance on American shores. This week, Capcom hopes to remedy that oversight with the third major entry in the six-year old franchise. Has the publisher’s marketing push persuaded our readers to take arms against the incoming groundswell of Great Jaggis and Uragaans?

DesertEagle’s Pick: Once again I’m going to plunge into Monster Hunter‘s world, yearning to discover that miraculous essence that seems to enchant player like SeanNOLA. While previous entries have left me irritated and discouraged, my brief hands on with Monster Hunter Tri has left be optimistic. Hopefully, I’ll want to add ‘Stalker of Beasts’ to my business card.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: There is absolutely nothing coming out this week that interests me in the slightest.  Not even a little bit… Naw, I’m just messing with you guys!  I am already camped out waiting for Monster Hunter Tri.  Is it Tuesday yet?

TideGear’s Pick: I’d like to be excited for Monster Hunter Tri, but I’ve been hurt before. Still, I’ll check it out. I’d have preferred a PC version of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom over the XBLA version the XBLA version, so perhaps I’ll get that. There’s not much to choose from this week, but After Burner Climax looks good enough to deem as my pick, shallow as it may inevitably be.

  1. I might give Tri and try. Especially, if I can score the controller bundle for $50 or less!

  2. How much is Capcom paying you guys? Monster Hunter pic, intro, and two picks should go for no less than $500 😉

  3. Are guys are pimping MHT hard, or just have no interest in the other stuff?

  4. It got pushed back?

    (Whistle)

“Delay of Game…10 yard penalty against the offense”

  5. Sean, you you have to be a hardcore game to like Tri. I wanted to pick up the demo but my GS gave them all away.

  6. Thanks for putting the new releases up every week. I’ve bookmarked the site just for your info.

  7. Ok, who will be the first person to throw up from Afterburner? I got sick/dizzy from the video. Imagine that shit on a big screen.

  8. (To the tune of Kung Fu Fighting)

    Everybody was Monster Hunting,

Those Felyne were fast as lightning

In fact it was a little bit frightning

But they fought with expert timing

They were funky Genpreys with neurotoxin

Requiring Hunters to try and outfox them

They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down

It’s an ancient Hunter art and everybody knew their High Rankin’ part

From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip

    Everybody was Monster Hunting!!!

    Sing it with me!

  9. Blood Bowl got pushed back a week, so I’m still waiting for my copy to arrive. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you guys!

  10. Let’s be honest: I probably would have picked Monster Hunter regardless of what else was coming out, but it really didn’t have a whole lot of competition this week. I mean there are only 7 games!

  11. I love the retarded feeling combat of the game. For those that dont like being in control of their game.

Yeah that’s a great pick right there. I’d like to personally recommend Superman 64, too.

  12. Maybe it’s the not the combat that is retarded, but the player.

I have no problem with the game at all. Once you take the time to learn it. But you’re probably too busy to do that, aren’t you?

  13. I heard some friends of Cheapy worked on Monster Hunter Tri localization. Hopefully they werent as as lazy as he was.

Sean must be balls deep in it right now.

  14. Haha, yea I listened to that on the CAGcast right before I started playing – there is a typo in the first sentence of the game. I laughed. Overall, though, the localization is pretty great.

  15. Patience, man – It’s a big game! DEagle and I are possibly writing on a duel review, and I’ll also be writing an article for Joystiq. Stay tuned!

  16. They sent it to me late. I didn’t get it in until yesterday (good job, PR guys) but I have been playing non-stop trying to get through it in a timely manner. I was up until the wee hours of the morning with it, and I’m already pretty far into it. The first two ranks go by pretty quickly if you know what you’re doing.
