New Releases 4/25-5/1: Boulevard Brawling Edition

Whether players prefer kicking balls or butt, there’s a healthy selection of diversions waiting for gamers at retail outlets this week. Sports enthusiasts have a World Cup edition of FIFA and a re-invigoration of a classic football title, while those enthralled with more combative personalities may enjoy the updates showered upon the Dead to Rights and Street Fighter franchises.

DesertEagle’s Pick: PSP owners who haven’t picked up the fantastic adaptation of PixelJunk Monsters, would consider doing so- I’d love to see more $10 new UMDs. On the PS3 front, I’ll be clearing 10 GB from my hard drive to make room for Record or Agarest War‘s multi-generational RPG gameplay. Hopefully, ass-kicking genes are a dominant genetic trait.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: My greatest gaming shame is that – never jumped on the Street Fighter 4 bandwagon.  I preordered it to get that sweet Ryu headband, but when the time came to pick up my copy, I balked and left it with the clerk. Hopefully, Super Street Fighter 4 will justify my year long wait, and fighting fans will welcome me with open arms.

TideGear’s Pick: Since I have already picked Splinter Cell: Conviction and PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe (I think?) in the past, I’m going to go with Dead to Rights: Retribution as my pick this week. I’m in it for the attack-dog gameplay mechanic, so they had better make good use of that.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. DSiWare releases posted Monday

Why is that? Nintendo doesn’t make annoucements.

  2. Will PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe be $10 on PSN also? If so, score for me by waiting.

  3. Why dont PC games release on the same date at their console versions? Thats said, I might get Conviction. Anyone know if UBisoft’s going to put their usual DRM on it?

  4. Where’s Karnov and SeanNOLA picks of the week?

Karnov says “PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe: because I like PixelJunk so damn much.

SN says “I’m too busy with MHT to care, but pick up Dead to Rights: Retribution because you can attack people with Shadow. And killing people with dog is cool. Especially if they are hipsters.”

  5. Super Street Fighter 4 feels like it could have been DLC. $40 is a bit much. I want the competition, but I’m going to have to wait.

  6. I cant beleive they are STILL milking Harvest Moon games. You should a PR rep on your show and just ask “Why?”

  7. Other site always complain that Nintendo never shows there hand until Monday morning.

  8. “10 GB” ????

you’ve got to kidding me. I have a 20 GB machine! Time to finally upgrade that HD!

  9. I want to kick some balls this week. In Dead to Rights, though. Get ’em Shadow!

  10. I do like Squeenix’s output, but I know very little about NIER, besides it being an action/adventure game.

  11. I’ll give you their answer and the real answer.

Natsume: We make them because our fans ask for them.

Reality: We make them because they make money.

  12. I’m wondering if Tecmo Bowl Throwback will be any good. I guess we’ll know on Wednesday.

  13. I bought a DSIXL, so I might have to get some DSIware to go with it. You guys have any picks?

  14. I might have to pick us a PSP game this week. PJM will be the first game in months for it.
