New Releases 5/23-5/29: Takedown Edition

With a number of high-profiles releases this week, publishers are poised to place player’s wallets into a submission hold. While a number of sequels are expected to line stove shelves, an exciting amount of new properties are prepared to scrap for your discretionary income. Certainly, Blur, ModNation Racers, Dawn of Heroes, and Hexyz Force all seem like solid freshman franchises; time will indicate which titles will prevail.

Making History II: The War of the World

DesertEagle’s Pick: In my review, I gave an unequivocal recommendation for Super Mario Galaxy 2, a title which is destined to appear on many ‘game of the year’ lists. While both ModNation Racers and Hexyz Force may not receive the same universal accolades, both appear to be intriguing abysses eager to swallow my waking hours for the next few weeks.

TideGear’s Pick: As there often is, there’s a few downloadable games I’m interested in this week, including Soldner-X 2: Final PrototypeArt Style: Light Trax, and Viral Survival. That said, Super Mario Galaxy was the first Mario game to come along in quite a while that renewed the spark I felt when I first played Super Mario 64Super Mario Galaxy 2 is my pick.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: This is a very dense week, and there is a lot to look forward to: If last year’s game was any indication, UFC Undisputed 2010 will be a favorite for fight fans – that might be worth checking out if you understand all the nuance. Blur will probably get my weekly 60; I’m not a big race fan, but I can get behind balls-out kart racing in real(ish) cars!

  1. I always see new Backyard sports games, but I never meta single person that bought one.

  2. With the NBA playoffs, its been tough to get some quality game time in.

  3. Whose beating up Deagle in the pic? LOL.

Great game the other day, BTW!

  4. “Pirates Plundarrr” sounds like one of those fake trivia question answers.

  5. Yep, I loved the first one. Hopefully, there’s enough change to make it worth $60.

  6. “Let’s Paint” might be good for the kids. I’m surprised no one has made a good drawing program for the wii.

  7. I liked the Blur demo, but it didn’t assure me the game was worth the price.

  8. Did you guys know that Viral Survival is a NIS game?!? No fights from Nola and deagle!

  9. Modnation. I might have to pick it up for both systems. Anyone know if there’s any data exchanging between each version?

  10. Adam, maybe you can review Art Style: Light Trax (wink, wink) I wouldn’t want the other guys touching it.

  11. Thanks, Adam. Seems like it might be cool. At least the shooter part.
