New Releases 5/9-5/15: Familiar Friends Edition

The week’s releases feels like a friendly reunion of admired video game characters. Elder statesmen, Sparkster, has been absent from gaming for sixteen long years. Many are curious if the armored opossum has the verve to lead a 16-bit revival. Assisting Sparkster in the resurgence effort is Earthworm Jim who is hoping to recapture the fame of his glory days with a DS port and an upcoming high-definition make-over.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Despite some of the most infuriating boss battles I’ve encountered in recent memory, Lost Planet 2 has enough co-operative and multiplayer contest to allow a recommendation to cool-headed action aficionados. Those prone to fits on controller-throwing may want to seek out Skate 3‘s more laid-back vibe.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: The Maypocalypse has begun!  This week, we see several great titles, including the re-release of one of my favorite games, Earthworm Jim!  Although I never got around to trying the first Lost Planet, the sequel has me intrigued – and you know I can’t help but be drawn to the downloadable Monster Hunter costume!

TideGear’s Pick: The Rocket Knight series is wonderful and the fact it went away was a great injustice. Although I’m understandably concerned about its return, the recent trailers have instilled me with significant hope. I’m ready to soar again!

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. A couple decent games this week with Lost Planet 2 and Skate 3. Nothing I really need to play right now, though.

  2. The skate series is crap. I wish they made regular Tony Hawk games without the plastic skateboard.

  3. Does anyone play Conan here? I might get that, but I need some info? How much is it per month? How’s the PvP?

  4. C’mon you should know by know that Karnov is always LTTP. That’s his method.

  5. The ERSB made them make it less sensational to protect the children.

  6. Could be time to shoot some sac. I’m talking about the picture, of course.

  7. Your not. I preorderd the game, but I’m seeing some playing that will have it for $34.99

  8. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3. Believe it!

    Or “Dattebayo!” to the hardcore.
