New Releases 6/13-6/19: Infinity and Beyond Edition

With nary a Mature-rated game in sight, the bulk of this week’s new releases are clearly aiming for a younger demographic. Even the menacing-monikered Naval Assault: The Killing Tide, appears to skip the salty language and close-quarters combat for some trigonometry- guided torpedoes. Hopefully, the title will illustrate that sending Nazi U-boats to a watery grave can be just an informative as one of those bland edutainment titles which parent are often suckers for.

DesertEagle’s Pick: While I’m really interested in how the developers of Yard Sale Hidden Treasures have transformed sifting through piles of junk into a compelling game mechanic, I’m going to have to give the nod to far more pedestrian title. XG Blast doesn’t do much more than present waves of enemies that need to be blasted into space dust, but it doesn’t scratch that Geometry Wars itch on the go. For DS owners who haven’t picked up the proficient port of GW: Galaxies is $20 well spent.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Seriously, people?  Did you really expect another outstanding week after The Maypocalypse?  If you are really dying to spend your money, and you have already purchased all of the amazing games that hit last month, why not give that money that’s burning a hole in your pocket to charity?  Or me?

TideGear’s Pick: Even though I always have games back-logged, I’m not going to cop out like certain NOLAs beginning with “Sean”. I will pick anyway! I’m not sure if Naval Assault: The Killing Tide is meant as some kind of not-so-veiled threat towards me, but I’m still interested. (Though, I supposed it’d have to be “The Killing of Tide”.) I love submarines, but most simulations are so complex, I can’t even want to put in the time. I hope this is a bit more Ace Combat-like. I’m not going to try to hide it, I’m also pretty interested in the PC version of Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Are you guys sponsored by Disney or what?

Toy Story 3 as your graphics? Cmon!

  2. Desert, you’re going to review Dance On Broadway, right? GOTY contender right there.

  3. My pick is Naval Assault: The Killing TideGear because he cant post his pick.

By killing him, I mean in a game of course, no real violence!

  4. Toy Story 3: The Video Game is rated M because they show a Woody in the game 😉

    Sorry, bad to.

  5. All the of the amazing games is just Deagle giving out good scores like he always does.

  6. I can’t remember this bad a week in a long time. NOLA’s right. Pay it forward.

  7. I don’t see a good game hidden through all the junk. Never heard of XG Blast. but it sounds kind of generic.

  8. Some of this week’s game almost seems like bad jokes- Pro Cycling Manager – Tour de France 2010?

  9. So much hate this week. Just skip this nonsense and soak in all the new E3 titles that are yet to be announced.

  10. Maybe he’s getting Rocking Android’s show together for E3. Give him a break.

  11. I’ll be honest with you, I have high hopes for Disney Interactive. They’ve come a long way since Warren Spectre took the helm a few years ago.

  12. I’m ready for a Podcast Assault: The Killing of my Braincells by straight-up awesomeness.

  13. We’re going to do a special post-e3 show tonight, and I’m going to try to make sure it gets posted this weekend. Sorry we didn’t get a during-the-show-cast up, but we were swamped with appointments – don’t worry though, we have TONS to talk about.

  14. All of the press conferences were pretty “meh” this year. I suppose Nintendo “won” by virtue of the fact that it wasn’t quite as boring as Sony or Microsoft’s.
As for game of the show, I’m not sure that there was a clear winner, but I was really surprised by a lot of Sega and Capcom’s showings. I didn’t get my hands on Dark Heresy, but that was pretty much a 3 minute long video of pure Sean-love, so I’m pretty excited about that as well.
Still trying to process it all, but we’ll talk about everything on the show.
