New Releases 7/18-7/24: Teutonic Invasion Edition

Despite a modest week for new releases, a few tantalizing downloadable offerings are ready to tempt gamers. Limbo, draws visual inspiration from classic films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Nosferatu, while Young Thor sees players controlling a juvenile god of thunder in a effort to to save the world tree, Yggdrasil. So whether your tastes are aligned with either German Expressionism or Germanic mythology, there’s a title that should tickle your fancy.

DesertEagle’s Pick: A few weeks on the podcast, I mentioned how nice it would be to play TrackMania on a console. While I was hoping for a 360/PS3 iteration, a Wii version of the celebrated game might just do the trick. My only request is not having to swap friend codes just to trade tracks; I suspect there are not more than a handful of vulgar ideas which can be produced by grievers.

TideGear’s Pick: You probably think I’m going to pick Limbo, right? Despite its indie status and buzz, I’m not sure it’s got more going for it than being artsy platformer. Well see, eh? My pick is TrackMania, that’s a series of racing games that does some really different things.

  1. Never heard of Young Thor. So there are different version for the PS3 and PSP?

  2. Limbo!

But the $15 price tag makes me thing of Braid all over again (good, but not worth the money)

  3. Samantha Swift and the Hidden Roses of Athena. At long last! My prayers have been answered.

  4. Man, another lame week. When do the really good games start coming out?

  5. I watched the Young Thor video. Its looks like an average PS1 game. Nothing to get excited about.

  6. You really expect your reader to know what German Expressionism is?!? LOL

Film major here! Nice write up guys!

  7. Me think it’s time for a podcast, lest Thor will release the thunder of all the mighty gods upon thee!

  8. If he was being hung, he’s treat it like a puzzle game and figure his way out of it. Dont you worry about him 😉

You guys too much catching those California rays or what?

  10. whats Teutonic mean? You guys have too many nerdy jokes. You must be the real life Big Bang Theory.

  11. I could have sworn I’ve played a game called Zany Golf for the Wii before.

  12. This week, SNOLA’s lagging it, HAHA.

Now, Trackmaster has got me attention.

  13. No, nothing that noble – I got stuck at a map convention in San Diego last week (yes, you read that correctly) and I’m just now getting back in the swing of things.

  14. Is that code-talk for “I’ve been playing Etrian Odyssey III while on vacation?”

  15. a map convention?

Like people exchange top-secret treasure maps or what? Is a LARPers paradise or what?
