New Releases 7/25-7/31: Zerg Rush Edition

From Perseus’ conflict with the Medusa, Ragna the Bloodedge’s destruction of the Novus Orbis Librarium, and the Terran’s eternal struggle with the Protoss and Zerg, this week is overflowing with discord. Pacifistic players may have to take a break this week, or at the very least settle for a friendly game of Skeeball to satisfy any competitive urges.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Two years ago, the decision to split StarCraft II into three separate titles was announced. Needless to say, I was immediately skeptical. This week players will find out if Blizzard’s actions are as shifty as they initially appeared. Between Zerg rushes, I’ll also be playing some Arc Rise Fantasia, to fill my turn-based desires.

SeanNOLA’s Pick
: Publishers were smart not to attempt to compete with the Blizzard Behemoth. Just in case you haven’t turned on a TV, opened a magazine, surfed the internet, seen a bus or talked to anyone, StarCraft II drops this week.  If it’s anything like the last game, everyone with a PC will own the game by the end of the year, so even if I don’t pick it now, I’m bound to pick it eventually.

TideGear’s Pick: While I’ve been waiting for the Continuum Shift version of BlazBlue, I think I’ll be getting a bit more fun out of StarCraft II. Now, if I could just get all the way through the first one.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Actually, NOLA there’s some decent (but indirect) competitiom with Blaz and maybe Arc Rise Fantasia

  2. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift has three new characters for $40. Tell me if it’s worth it guys.

  3. I also feel Blizz is going to Shanghai gamers, and stretch out the campaigns.

I hope the next two games aren’t %59- That would mean the full SCII experience would be $180!!!

  4. I hate when people say something “drops” this week. Dead hip-hip lingo must die.

  5. Dear Blizzard,

People open up the servers, so I can play the Koreans and get my ass handed to me, and see what SC is really like.

    Thanks,

    Humble Canadian PalaDon

  6. Where do you get your info? You guys have a couple of games that Shacknews (where I usually go) doesn’t.

  7. I’ll probably get SC2 eventually. Like when the superdooper box set is $20 on Amazon.

  8. I know I shouldn’t be interested in Clash of the Titans and just play God of War/Dante’s instead, but I can’t help myself.

  9. Paying for Makoto Nanaya is a bummer. Just make us pay $50 and get all the extra stuff.

  10. Are you guys going to review SC2? I heard it has more of a RPG aspect this time (Like Warcarft 3)

  11. Tech-Gaming seems to spend a bit more time researching the releases. Something they’re wrong though and things do get pushed back.

  12. Hopefully JRPG god DEagle will offer some Arc Rise Fantasia love during the podcast.

  13. Yep, they are! But it’s Summer and SNOLA went missing so all is forgiven.

  14. Wasn’t that Karnov’s pick last week? I’m sure you guys will get over it. Play the PC version.

  15. I was speaking to the number of releases, more than to the quality. I’ve heard that Arc Rise was pretty “okay” as well.

  16. I asked Deagle to go bonkers over a blue-haired Japanese man-boy game 😉

  17. Serious, Desert what do you see in JRPGs? Both good and bad, you’re the only review I know who likes them.

  18. I did not. Right now my review plate is surprisingly full. I’ll probably nab it in the next month or so.

  19. Adam, where have you been? You’ve been hiding like the gingerbread man at a fat farm.

  20. Adam, do your religious practices prohibit post your pick until two days before the Shabbat? 😉
