New Releases 7/26-8/1: Scuffle Shuffle Edition

Continuing the resurgence in mano-a-mano gameplay, this week’s releases prove that pugnacious games are still in vogue. Between the retro rivalries of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, to the redrawn riotious action in King of Fighters XII, this week is all about fisticuffs. Even Wii Sports Resort features some heated matches with a virtual saber, meaning that Nintendo owners will also be able to enjoy the fracases.

Deserteagle’s Pick: Don’t laugh- one of the most engaging multiplayer competitions at E3 was found at the Wii Sports Resort. Between fencing and dogfighting, the Tech-Gaming staff found the WiiMotion Plus-enhanced controls instantly accessible, while the gameplay showed a bit more depth that its predecessor.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I like to think that I am somewhat of a d-pad aficionado, and as such, will have to wait for the PSN version of Marvel vs Capcom 2 to come out later this month before I start reliving my Dreamcast glory days. In the mean time, King of Fighters XII is a drop-dead gorgeous 2D fighter, and I’ve been chomping at the bit to really spend some quality time with Terry Bogart.

TideGear’s Pick: I agree with Sean on the d-pad situation, so I’m waiting on that too. It seems like Space Bust-A-Move isn’t going to do much in the way of innovation, but I’m definitely up for a new solid Bust-A-Move title! Overall, Wii Sports Resort is likely to bring me a lot fun and variety in a fresh way. That’s my pick.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Space Bust A Move might be worth a look. They haven’t made a good Bust a Move game on DS yet, IMHO.

  2. Wheres the PS3 version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2?!! I guess I’ll have to wait to use a real d-pad.

  3. I hope they are not charging more than $20 for the BC for the PC. Way to go Capcom and release your port after the console versions have hit the bargain bin.

  4. Too true: all I need from a DS Bust-a-Move game is Bust-A-Move 2, prettied up and stretched across 2 screens. Is that so hard? Do I really need to use the touch screen?

  5. The two screens are a problem. I hate games that act like these is a gap there, like Yoshi. It always throws me off.

Maybe have one screen for the bubbles an another for the score, dancing dinosaurs, and anything else.
