New Releases 7/4-7/10: Mercury Rising, Clothes Dropping Edition

Devoted players may be familiar with Summer Gaming Theory- the hypothesis which explains a reverse correlation between the rising temperatures of July and August and the dwindling number of new releases on store shelves. While the rationale for this phenomenon has yet to proven, many are placing the blame on seasonal competitors- everything from Summer blockbusters to family vacations. Of course, no one is looking at the obvious reason: those now-gen consoles nearly put out enough heat to negate a powerful air conditioning unit. If that’s the case, lead the lead set by the Tech-Gaming crew- strip down to your skivvies, grab an icy beverage, and sweat your way through each stage. That way, you can say you’re really earned those achievements.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Fans of the original Crackdown shouldn’t be too disappointed with the sequel. Although it’s more of the same (with the inclusion of orbs you must chase now, jeez) cleaning up the streets of Pacific City is still strangely addictive. Personally, I’m looking forward to all the tweaks Atlus has made to Persona 3.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Perhaps making Persona 3 pocket-sized will finally get me hooked on the whole Shin-Megami trend. Otherwise, this week offers little to lure me into my local game store.

TideGear’s Pick: This week has pretty slim pickin’s, in my humble opinion. Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition seems pretty impressive, however. I’ve always wanted a truly realistic (yet accessible) WWI-era biplane dogfighting game, but I’ve never known what to try. I’d be interested in Crackdown 2, if not for the almost universal “meh”s I’m hearing from fans of the first game.

  1. I guess you’re not blowing up anything, if you’re posting your picks. Hey, where’s the other guys?!?!

  2. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable for me. I cant wait. Got it preordered.

  3. Great show guys. Cant wait for the Desert Strike discussion. Great pick, NOLA.

  4. I can safely say, I won’t be picking up and games this week. Crackdown 2 was wayyyy too much like the first game to get my $60 dollars. Maybe at $30…

  5. I noticed a lot of that is going around. And a number of people are already playing the game. What gives?

  6. Yeah, it feels like an expansion rather than a full game. I’m going to have to recommend waiting until a price drop. I’m 4 hours in.

  7. Is Tournament of Legends the Wiimotion Plus fighting game? I might support SEGA this week.

  8. The first Big Beach Sports was ok. Of course, I got it on clearance for 7.xx…

  9. Only Desert’s picks? Where are the other two?

    Nothing for me this week.

  10. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable is selling for the full $40? At least Atlus is giving us a baseball cap.

  11. I have Crackdown 2 paid off. Depending on the scores, I’ll pick it up.

  12. My pick is 101 Shark Pets. Because children and sharks make a great combination.

  13. I hope you guys dont play gamers together in your underwear. Thats would be weird.

  14. I’ve heard Crackdown 2 is just more of the same stuff. They really should have done more than add 4 player mp.

  15. Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition might be cool. I agree with Adam, there’s not enough good WWI sims.
