New Releases 7/5-7/11: Regroup and Reissue Edition

It’s quite a perplexing week for new releases. At least a third of the titles on this week’s list are misnomers- games that have been previously released unbundled or without the greatest hits packaging. Stranger still is the lack of a single Nintendo DS title, which is typically the most prolific platform. Instead, it might be time to catch up on these overlooked PSP titles, as a quartet will be making encore performances.

Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal

DesertEagle’s Pick: While I don’t actually know any gamers who have not played Bioshock and Oblivion, 2K Games must think they exist. Like extra-terrestrials, they’re probably out there, on the outer edges of our realm. If they happen to get this message, know that the Bioshock/Oblivion bundle is one humankind’s greatest greatest achievements, along with pancake batter in a can.

TideGear’s Pick: This is the very definition of a slow week.
Though I’m not much of a fan of adventure games, I’m going to pick Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal anyway! I still need to try the original games!

SeanNOLA’s Pick: My pick of this week is the PSP.  I think it deserves a little pat on the back for fielding five games, unopposed by Nintendo, after such a long slump.  Sure, only the Bigs 2 is a new game, but if Sony is willing to up the ante with cheap games to compete with the dual-screened juggernaut, then they have my blessing and my pick for the next seven days.  My formal software pick goes to Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, not because I love the old Monkey Island games – which I do – but because I love Narwhals.  They are the unicorns of the sea, you know.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Yep I don’t know anyone who doesn’t won, let alone played Bio/Oblivion.

Shows, good deals happen for those who wait.

  2. I’ll wait for the 2 for $30 sales that Target and BB always have and pick up a couple of those PSP games.

    Which two are the best?

  3. Where can I get the original Monkey Island games. Everyone always raves about them.

  4. Yes, Adventure games and puzzlers aren’t my favorite genres. I get frustrated easily with both.

  5. Someone should have released a niche Japanese RPG among all the crap. It would have sold like wildfire.
