New Releases 7/5-7/11: Regroup and Reissue Edition
It’s quite a perplexing week for new releases. At least a third of the titles on this week’s list are misnomers- games that have been previously released unbundled or without the greatest hits packaging. Stranger still is the lack of a single Nintendo DS title, which is typically the most prolific platform. Instead, it might be time to catch up on these overlooked PSP titles, as a quartet will be making encore performances.

Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
DesertEagle’s Pick: While I don’t actually know any gamers who have not played Bioshock and Oblivion, 2K Games must think they exist. Like extra-terrestrials, they’re probably out there, on the outer edges of our realm. If they happen to get this message, know that the Bioshock/Oblivion bundle is one humankind’s greatest greatest achievements, along with pancake batter in a can.
TideGear’s Pick: This is the very definition of a slow week. Though I’m not much of a fan of adventure games, I’m going to pick Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal anyway! I still need to try the original games!
SeanNOLA’s Pick: My pick of this week is the PSP. I think it deserves a little pat on the back for fielding five games, unopposed by Nintendo, after such a long slump. Sure, only the Bigs 2 is a new game, but if Sony is willing to up the ante with cheap games to compete with the dual-screened juggernaut, then they have my blessing and my pick for the next seven days. My formal software pick goes to Tales of Monkey Island – Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, not because I love the old Monkey Island games – which I do – but because I love Narwhals. They are the unicorns of the sea, you know.
Yep I don’t know anyone who doesn’t won, let alone played Bio/Oblivion.
Shows, good deals happen for those who wait.
I’ll wait for the 2 for $30 sales that Target and BB always have and pick up a couple of those PSP games.
Which two are the best?
No recommendation for Bigs 2? Did any of you guys play the demo?
How much will Battlefield 1943 be?
BF 1943 if the demo is decent. Isn’t it DLC?
Is Monkey Island DLC and is it made by the same people as the original?
Tony Hawk 8 (PSP) any good? Other TH game for PSP was hella choppy.
SF IV PC
Nothing for me this week.
I might try the Bigs!
Battlefield 1943 PS3
No picks from NOLA and T-Gear again?
Marvel Ultimate is pretty damn good.
Nothing for DS? Wow, I cant remember that happening in a LONG time.
Maybe Bugs, Maybe.
Mines up now!
Pancake batter in a can. I didn’t know that existed. Is it any good?!?!
Where can I get the original Monkey Island games. Everyone always raves about them.
Tony Hawk Project 8 isn’t bad at all on the small screen.
I still need to pick up BlazBlue.
NOLA usually posts his by Monday.
Unicorns and Aliens?
You guys have gone all X-Files this week!
Shouldn’t it be EU ROMAN Gold?
Like Tide said, it’s a SLOW week.
DE doesn’t like adventure games or what?
Monkey Island for me.
Yes, Adventure games and puzzlers aren’t my favorite genres. I get frustrated easily with both.
Street Fighter IV for PC this week. Now I need a decent controller.
The week I splurge on a DSi, no games are released 😉
Someone should have released a niche Japanese RPG among all the crap. It would have sold like wildfire.
Is Bigs 2 selling for $60?!?!
Yep. A bit much if you ask me.
Birthday Party Bash doesn’t even sound like a game.
Wow, very slow week.
Looks like his is up, too.
Me too. I don’t like either of those types.
How much are PSPs these days anyway?
What are you guys reviewing this week?
Nothing for me this week.
“I don’t actually know any gamers who have not played Bioshock and Oblivion”
