New Releases 8/30-9/5: Poor No More Edition

Has unemployment made you unhappy ? Frustrated by furloughs teasing you with additional recreational time, but less disposable income? This week’s new releases offer a variety of virtual vocations for the recessionary gamer. Guitar Hero 5 presents a lucrative stadium tour for salary-strapped superstars, while Champions Online allows players to get a taste of superhero privilege, joining the ritz ranks of Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark. Heck, there’s even a title for the truly downtrodden; one release even shares its name with a low-income housing voucher program.

DesertEagle’s Pick: I got a soft spot in my heart for cuddly assassins. While Mini Ninjas doesn’t feel entirely fresh, I found it’s saccharin-sweet visuals irresistible. I’ll also likely be found perfecting the licks of “No One To Depend On” in Guitar Hero 5, hoping to channel my inner-Santana.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: The new releases get more exciting every week as we ramp up toward a blockbuster fall.  I know my gaming time is going to be split between the Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Champions Online.  That means I’ll be wiping an inch of dust off of my PC and my Wii, leaving my trusty PS3 lonely and confused this week. (Editor’s Note- Muramasa got pushed back one week; NOLA’s PS3 claims no responsibility for the delay)

TideGear’s Pick: Wow, my apathy abounds for this week’s releases. The Mini Ninjas demo was pretty underwhelming and I couldn’t bring myself to actually finish it. Section 8 looks much too generic. Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is my pick for lack of anything better. Good thing I have the recently released Metroid Prime Trilogy to keep me going in these times!

  3. That Mini Ninja demo games my teeth hurt!

Going to get that for sure. What was your favorite part?

  4. I cant see too many people liking the song selection. Pretty safe, and played out out songs.

  5. So words the deal with GH5 and GH Van Halen. I heard you get GH:VH free with purchase.

  6. Cruise Ship Vacation Games?

I hope there’s shuffleboard and clog the ship’s septic tank, my two favorite minigames.

  7. I should know better than to buy a game with “broken” in the title, like with Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny

  8. Adam picked it. I thought about it, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the preview build. We’ll see how the retail version stacks up, but I’m skeptical enough for my excitement to wain.
