New Releases 9/12-9/18: Reach Around (and Abound) Edition

With all the attention devoted to this week’s flagship software and hardware releases (Halo Reach and The Playstation Move, respectively) gamers might be forgiven if they neglected this remainder of this week’s new releases. Yet, they’d miss a number of noteworthy titles, including the latest installments in the Professor Layton and Phantasy Star franchises. Unobservant gamers might also miss one the latest salvo’s in the PS2’s lifespan; it’s doubtful the beloved hardware will see another three-release week before joining the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 in the great console heavens.

DesertEagle’s Pick: With all the hype surrounding Halo Reach, overlooking the title could lead to accusations of being an undercover Covenant operative. As a FPS fan, I’ll be picking the title up along with the latest installment of Professor Layton; a suitable ying to the Spartan’s yang.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I’ve been in an abusive relationship with Phantasy Star for close to two decades, so it goes without saying that I’ll be knee deep in Phantasy Star Portable 2 this week.  Dawn of Heroes makes are turn appearance to our new release list; if it actually comes out this time, I’d love to check that one out too.

TideGear’s Pick: If I could pick not having a cold, I would. Alas, that checkbox is greyed out in my immune system. I’m not finding this weeks releases too exciting, but if Halo Reach ends up being the best Halo yet, it may be time to return to the series.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. is that really a shot from Reach? I haven’t played a Halo game in a while, but I cant tell which game it is from the screenshots.

  2. From the director of Dawn of the Dead and 300 comes…OWLS?

Legend of Guardians: Owls Ga’Hoole looks like it going to be a hoot. Just kidding.

  3. thanks for posting. Something I get the releases from Shacknews but Garnett must be hungover this morning.

  4. You do know this one take place 25 years later. Master Chief will barely be in it, I’m told.

  5. not you guys too. Your friends at Cheapassgamer have been whining about not getting a copy either. Sack up and buy one.

  6. I’ll have NHL 11 up today.

    Next up:

    Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
    NHL Slapshot
    RUSE
    Gladiator Begins
    Retron 3 (hardware)

    Move reviews are incoming also.

  7. I went into my time machine and brought this back with me (along with the winning Lotto numbers):

TideGear’s Pick: All year I’ve been excited for the release of one game, and now it’s finally out. I might just have to brave the crowds to get my copy of Fancy Nancy: Tea Party Time this week.

    Love ya, Adam!!!

  8. The XBox/PS2 brawler (Twin Towers?) wasn’t bad at all, if I remember correctly.

Third Age for Game Cube was pretty sweet.

  9. nothing for me. No interest in Reach. Unlike the rest of the world, I’ve always been kind of meh about the series.

  10. dude that really sucks. I really like your review. Sure, the site isn’t the prettiest, but you and NOLA are awesome writers.

  11. Welp, I just finished editing the 3 hour, dual-week Podcastravaganza, but my headphones blew out at the end (this has been a theme for me this month). I am uploading it now for approval, but there is a good chance it will sound like poop. We’ll see how it goes.
