New Releases 9/6-9/12: The Mystery of History Edition

This week’s new releases offer a number of opportunities for virtual time travelers. Darkest of Days recreates the ancient days of Pompeii, and offers player’s the ability to pursue Robert E. Lee’s army through Antietam. Aviation aficionados, on the other hand, can transport themselves to WWII, and fly the aircraft which Joseph Stalin stated was “as essential to the Red Army as air and bread.” Gamers unwilling to step into the boots of Anna Yegorova, or those with a more pacifistic leaning can bask in the swinging sixties, following the career trajectory of the fab four. Why not skip those boring history lectures, and relive the past by firing up your console?

DesertEagle’s Pick: My appreciation for all things Nippon Ichi has been renewed after spending a few days entranced by Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days. Anyone with the slightest interest in SRPGs should pick the title up. I’ve been following the Colin McRae games since the Playstation days, so DiRT 2 will be a requisite pick-up for me.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I can never see a grid-based Japanese strategy game sitting on the shelf without picking it up and giving it a try, especially when it holds as much clout as Disgaea;  the sequel will be dominating my handheld time. The demo of IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey on PSN has me intrigued, and I will most likely find a home for the full version on my PS3.

TideGear’s Pick: Sure, there’s a few promising titles coming out this week, but I‘m a little shocked at my colleagues’ complete lack of even mentioning Muramasa: The Demon Blade. That’s my pick! Perhaps, they’re approaching with stealth?

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Rock Band Beatles looks to change the face of gaming, and you guys put a IL-2 pic there? (Puzzled)

  2. Is Tide still grumpy? Deagle and SeanNOLA seems to be in good spirits, and posted their picks.

  3. I think it’s sad that kids are being tutored by their DS’s these days. Why to make the kids hate their game consoles.

  4. You guys forgot the most important game that’s coming out on the 8th(well gamestop is already selling it) Muramasa: The Demon Blade :X.

  5. Yep, but my favorite songs aren’t on the disk.

No Day in the Life, In My Life, Eleanor Rigby, and Hey Jude really hurt. Ah well, there’s DLC, I guess 😉

  6. Ok, here’s my pathetic excuse:

Some sites reported a release last week for Muramusa, while Ignition told me the release was on the 8th.

I was in Gamestop last Friday, and the game came in, so at least in some parts the game is already out.

Despite all this nonsense, it deserves your hard-earned money. I played about an hour of the full version and it was absolutely kick-ass!

  7. Oh Yes, I think educating the masses via a console is a great idea!
What if we could just virtually spend time w/ those we are obligated to?
