New Releases for the Week of April 17th, 2011

As the Winter chill relinquishes its grasp, yard and garage sales are proliferating like a plague, filling neighborhoods with the corpses of used goods. With six compilations of older titles in this week’s new release schedule, it seems publishers are also doing a bit of spring cleaning of their own- hoping to get rid of their popular titles at a discounted price. Scattered among the anthologies are a few sequels which promise to deliver at least a few new mechanics. Hopefully, titles like Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, and SOCOM 4 deliver a bit of innovation while building on each title’s rich heritage.

DesertEagle’s Pick: By eliminating most of the middling micro-managing associated with the real-time strategy genre, Majesty 2 captivated me for the better part of a month. Combining Majesty 2, Kingmaker, Monster Kingdom and Battles of Ardania, along with a game editor for $20 is one of the best PC gaming deals since the StarCraft Battle Chest.

  1. Woah, what’s Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection. Ive never heard of this.

  2. Hey I know everybody and their mother loves Portal, and as part of the Orange Box is what dope. But $60 on the sequel I have to question. Shit might get boring after a while. Make hole 1 make hole 2, jump, repeat.

  3. kind of want MK, but I know fighter drop. I’m still waiting for a MvC3 drop, tho…so I can wait it out since local is the way real players roll.

  4. SOCOM 4 all the way. By the way- saw them in my Redbox, I’ll be getting this on my way home.

  5. With Gamefly lagging these days, I’m still waiting for Shift 2. Whats up with that Garnett? Weekend denied!

  6. Majesty 2 did kick ass but I already have most of those already.

    Portal 2 for me, preordered.

  7. Assassin’s Creed Ultimate Collection doesn’t come with brotherhood? Fail.

With Ubi’s copy protection it probably wouldn’t work all that good anyway.

  8. As always thanks for posting.

I’ll be getting Portal 2 for both me and the wife. The first is the only game she’s ever finished.

  9. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn’t already on PSN? Maybe cause I’ve played it so many times.

  10. I always wondered where the words “ten-hut” came from and what they mean? Deagle?

  11. HA! easy one.

Ten-Hut is a shorted version of the “A-Ten-Hut” command which itself is modifying from “A-tten-tion”.

When shouting that “tion” (or “shun”) sound didn’t have the snap that accompanies “hut”.

    At ease.

  12. I heard IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover has the worst framerate problems ever seen. I want to play a new sim, but I’ll wait till they patch it.

  13. So is the Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD a port of the PC version like Splinter Cell is?

  14. Maybe Mortal Kombat, but I’m waiting to hear how they are handling the DLC. I don’t really want to pay for characters and fatalaties after spending $60 on the full game.

  15. I caught Portal 2 creating a hole in my wallet and their bank account with day 1 DLC. Thanks Valve.
