New Releases for the Week of February 12th, 2012

While the majority of aspiring Vita purchasers will likely be waiting until the system’s official launch date of February 22nd to pick up the portable, those committing to the First Edition Bundle are in luck this week. Agreeing to purchase the Wi-Fi+3G model, along with a 4GB memory card and Little Deviants allows access to the system one week early. So that the entire seven days aren’t filled with AR mini-games, Sony has opened the floodgates, releasing its launch titles to stores and via download.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Sure, I’ve dropped my share of blocks and birdies over the years, but that won’t stop me from recommending Lumines Electronic Symphony and Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational to Vita owners. The first has one of the best electronica soundtracks in gaming history while the later has always pulled me in with it’s light role-playing elements and breezy mechanics which are perfect for portable play.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I was going to abstain from picking Uncharted: Golden Abyss on account of the fact that I have no Vita on which to play it (yet), but my next best choice would be Twisted Metal, and after spending a few hours with the “beta,” I can safely say I won’t be spending Earth dollars on that. So, this week I’ll download Uncharted and wait patiently for its native system to arrive at my doorstep.

    1. Yes, it’s coming out. Maybe THQ doesn’t have money to advertise. They could give a free uDraw with purchase.

      1. Because nothing says I’m a lean, leaning, fighting machine like the ability to draw flowers.

  1. I would have bought a Vita early, after all the 3G could be cool ONE DAY. But a 4GB card is useless. Give me an 8, or even better 16 GB.

  2. I didn’t know they were making a Rhythm Heaven game for the Wii. I loved the DS one even though it was hard as petrified cement.

  3. Anyone notice (especially after looking at the front page) that all the games coming out these days are moody and shadowy?

  4. No Vita this week or the next. I’ll wait a few months until there’s more than just ports of PS3 games.

  5. Asphalt: Injection – played on 3DS, sucked.
BEN 10 Galactic Racing – kids kart racer, nuff said.
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND, played on PSP and PS3
Dungeon Hunter Alliance, iphone game? No thanks.
F1 2011 – no interest, not from Europe
    FIFA Soccer – see above.
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational – Played on PS3
Lumines Electronic Symphony – Played Lumines at PSP launch
Michael Jackson: The Experience – No, just no.
ModNation Racers: Road Trip – No online. Whats the point.
Rayman Origins – Want to play but not on a small screen.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 -Played on PS3 already
Uncharted: Golden Abyss – Ok, maybe.
    WipEout 2048 – Played on PS3 also.

    Man, that’s a terrible launch.

    1. Michael Jackson: The Experience is a dance game right? How the hell do you play that on a Vita? Does it use the camera or something?

    2. Some people ModNation Racers for the single player. As long as you can share courses, that seems cool.

    3. I’m up for UMvC3 on the go. Anyone know i you can play online?

It would be weird having a 3G system and no games to take advantage of it.

  6. DEagle, did you not see that Tales of the Abyss is coming out. It’s a JRPG for the 3DS! You are destined to like this.

  7. It’s almost tragic your Twisted Metal pic has a going out of business sign the week Eat, Sleep, Play lays off their work force.

  8. Its funny that there’s still PSP games coming out the week of the Vita launch. Has that ever happened to a system before (having past-gen games come out during launch week)

    1. Pretty sure that happens with every major system. 3rd parties usually keep churning out games for a few years after a successor is released.

      1. I know they still make PS2 EA Sports games.

But releasing a PSP game during the Vita launch is either suicide or ingenious.

  9. Uh, Twisted Metal was harder to control that Lindsay Lohan on the first day of rehab. I will wait for a price plummet.

  10. Chess for Kids and MJ might be the two worst titles of the year. And they are coming out the same week?

  11. I’m with DesertEagle, Hot Shots Golf has always been fun to play and looks like a must have launch game.

  12. “I have no Vita on which to play it”

Wait, all that Sony love that you deliver on the podcast and the company has hooked you up yet?

Or did Deagle take it for himself?

        1. You know they probably have something in the actor’s contract to stop this, but wouldn’t it be hilarious if Microsoft paid him more then he made commercials talking about wrong he was before.

      1. I don’t want to commit anything to digital paper until I play the full versions, but I’ll talk about the event on the show. Essentially the hardware has significantly improved from e3, but the games were underwhelming.
