New Releases for the Week of March 13th-19th, 2013

Gears of War Judgment With reports indicating that the Wii U is struggling at retail, this week’s batch of releases might offer a glimmer of hope for Nintendo’s system. While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Need for Speed Most Wanted U are sure to attract fans of the respective franchises, LEGO City Undercover might be the console most promising new title, at TT Fusion moves their brick-collecting mechanics into an open-world design.

Robert’s Pick: By all accounts, I should be excited for Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. Yet, I can’t shake the feeling that Compile Heart and Idea Factory haven’t tweaked their core engine, making traversing the overworld a disappointing experience.  Don’t tell SeanNOLA, but I’m actually more excited about stalking slime-spitting Brachydios in the 3DS and Wii U versions of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Sage’s Pick:  As one of the T-G members to never play any of the games in the Monster Hunter series, If I had any of the systems to play it, I would be looking forward to finally getting my hands on some hunting action.  Since I don’t, this week I’ll be looking into Retro/Grade instead.  It combines Shoot ’em up action with beat oriented game play, and throws in the premise of preventing temporal anomaly.  Players UN-shoot ’em up in time to a beat in reverse time, which is where the game gets its name.  As a bonus, the Steam version will support all kinds of peripheral controllers, including controllers and Rockband guitars.

Eric’s Pick: My pick this week is, big surprise, Dead Or Alive 5 Plus. What is legitimately a big surprise, however, is that apparently the street date has been lifted and GameStop is selling it right now. Their website no longer lists it as coming 3/19/13, but instead has the option to add it to the cart. If at all possible, I’ll be picking my pre-order copy up tonight, so keep an eye on Twitter for impressions and perhaps a video.

    1. Yea, people got REAL sick of Nintendo adding a “Super” on the beginning of SNES games? Or a “64” at the end of N64 games, didn’t they?

      1. I’ve gotta admit, I liked having either “Super” at the beginning or “64” at the end of almost every title. It just worked, you know? “U”, on the other hand, is just plain dumb. But, I guess it’s still better than having every other Wii game title end with “Party”. 😉

        1. Only 70 out of about 784 releases of SNES releases have “Super” in the title. Less than 10%

  1. It’s weird. Gears of War: Judgment is the first game in the series I’m not excited for.

    1. I never thought the series was the “OMG, It’s so F’Ning FUN” game everyone else thought it was.

Pop up, shoot locust 30 times, throw occasional grenade, watching cheesy cut scene. Roll end credits.

  2. I’m really tempted to buy Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate at launch. But here the thing. It will tank in America. There is no Wii U market and what audience is out there probably doesn’t care about MHU.

I’ll pick it up for $20 in two months. Lets hope some people are still playing.

  3. These games aren’t going to help Wii U. Bring Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, and Smash Bros. Then we’ll talk.

  4. Watch out, the Gonorrhea Sister are back.

What’s that you Say, the Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams? Oh, ok they’re cool.

  5. I can’t wait for Gears of War: Judgment. Hopefully, I can get it Monday at midnight.
