New Releases for the Week of March 27th, 2011

Players can expect an abundance of driving in this week’s new releases. Beyond tearing up the tarmac in Shift 2 Unleashed, NASCAR The Game 2011, Asphalt 3D, and Ridge Racer 3D, gamers have the option to drive the dimpled ball down Augusta’s gorgeous greens with Tiger Wood’s PGA Tour 12: The Masters. Heck, when even Rush’N Attack‘s lone thrusts his dagger blade into the throats of enemies, players will be doing more driving than an insomniac truck driver.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Instead of a cross-platform pick, allow me to issue advice squarely to the prospective 3DS owners. You’ll want to pick up Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Ridge Racer 3D while steering clear of future clearance-bin fodder Asphalt 3D and Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D.

SeanNOLA’s Pick
: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to play the train-wreck that is Dino D-Day, but my pick for this week has been reserved for some time now: I loved the original Parasite Eve – I even tolerated the second game – and I’ve been waiting years for Aya Brea’s next adventure. Even though I am setting myself up for frustration and disappointment, thanks to 3rd Birthday‘s new shooter mechanics, I’ll be picking it up this week for nostalgia’s sake.

Samurage’s Pick: Out of this week’s generous assortment of releases, I’m most excited about the DLC for Mass Effect
2
. Sure, it is just a side quest, so the length of the content might be a
little wanting, but I’m excited to see the game deliver a different
style of play.

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. I thought Dynasty Warriors 7 came out last week.

For the 3DS not the best launch ever. Almost every game I’ve played before…in 2D.

  2. Shift 2 Unleashed is coming out this week? Shit, I haven’t seen a single ad or work about this game.

  3. If Dino D-Day has stegosauruses rushing the beach against T-Rexs in pillboxes, Deagle’s gonna B+ it for sure.

  4. I’m hoping The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky will be good. Love that acronym!

  5. I’ll give the demo of Rush ‘N Attack a try. I liked the old NES game way back when.

  6. I don’t think it needs discussion. OP thinks Bioware should create an game for their ideal (imagined?) audience, which is based on sexual orientation and gender.

Now here’s the problem- draw a Venn diagram of people that are male and straight (or two other cultural variables). In that intersection, you’re not going to find complete homogeneity. Some gamers which are a part of both groups aren’t even going to like RPGs.
