New Releases for the Week of October 21st, 2012
Evidently, hunting season has begun. Beyond the abundance of Cabela games, with each consoles receiving two different animal-tracking titles, this week gamers will also be tracking a variety of different vermin. Beyond Medal of Honor: Warfighter‘s eradication of terrorists across Pakistan, Philippines and Somalia, others will be scouting a more elusive prey: Skylanders figurines. With eight new, super-sized statuettes to collect, players might need to scout a advantageous position at the front of their nearby retail to nab one of these cherished creatures.

Robert’s Pick: With the release of Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec a decade ago, I was one of the franchise’s biggest advocates, certain that Polyphony Digital had a lock on the console racing market. Of course, within the next year years the emergence of the Burnout and Forza franchises would prove me wrong. Despite the loss of Forza Motorsport 4‘s tuning and auction components, this week’s release of Forza Horizon looks to satisfy my lust for down and dirty, off-road racing. Just maybe, the integration of Project Gotham-esque Kudos system can make be forget about the reduced number of competitors as well.
Jeremy’s Pick: If you missed Stardock Entertainment’s Elemental: War of Magic, either accidentally or purposely, you would probably be forgiven. It didn’t exactly set the world on fire the way the studio wanted… and you have to hand it to them because they’re going back to make it better. In Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, some key components are being updated for usability and fun. Battles, tech trees, and city building are all being revisited to make them more enjoyable and less obtuse; pretty important for a “civ” style game. The overworld and tactical magic systems are being reworked too, to improve the “personality” of the game and bring it up to snuff in a genre that includes the great Master of Magic and Age of Wonders. Personally speaking, Elemental was a big, fun timesink, so I’m excited (and a bit concerned) to see what magical devastation Fallen Enchantress will wreak upon my schedule.
BlueSwim’s Pick: Pinch me, I must be dreaming! The new release floodgates are wide open this week. As big of a Forza 4 gearhead as I am (hell, I drive a Sailor Moon Chevy Camero), it’s the oddly-titled Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus that gets my approval. Long before BlazBlue rebelled against the fighting genre, Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear was rocking faces with its off-the-wall characters and heart-pounding Daisuke Ishiwatari soundtrack. The fast and furious fighting series has seen numerous iterations over the years, with Accent Core Plus being the most recent console release. This digital version will feature online play, as well as a post-launch balance patch based on the 2012 arcade revision, Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus R. With any luck, this will lay the groundwork for Guilty Gear X BlazBlue. Heaven Or Hell! Let’s Rock!
Woah, mental overload looking at all those new games. Where are stores going to put all those Skylanders boxes?
Artorias of the Abyss is really $15? Man, that’s a bit high considering the game is about $20-$30.
7 Vita releases? Seriously?
I still need to pick up Code of Princess!
Hopefully, there’s a The Unfinished Swan demo so I can try that for myself.
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus is a nice surprise. Since the game is hard to find on disk (popular with fighting game fans) it makes sense to see a download.
Lucius sounds like a really cool idea for a PC game. Seems like an October release is perfect for a game where you are the devil’s son.
Des, did you not see Medal of Honor: Warfighter on the list? How could that not be your pick? You don’t like guns anymore?
Also, Liberation Maiden is a eShop game.
Since the font change, I noticed less anime girls and more guys with guns on the front page? Coincidence?
I remember Pong for the PSOne being pretty one. If there was any kind of PS+ sale, I might have to bite.
Also, I want Virtue’s Last Reward. But only If I can get the preorder bracelet on Amazon.
Is the bracelet still available? I don’t see in on Amazon for the 3DS version.
I like Forza too but the DLC grab is a turn off.
Why can’t I use my purchased Forza 4 cars in Horizon?
on Skylanders Giants it’s technically 16 new figures – 8 new Giants and 8 new regular sized — plus all the reissues — hah can get confusing!
Here’s a playthrough of the first level if anyone is interested 🙂

Cool. I heard there’s over $500 in content now. The rumor of Activision buying the world may just be true.
Looks dope, dude.
No need for the reissues because I heard the new big ones kick all kinds of ass.
Here, Wal-Mart has Medal of Honor: Warfighter for $40 this week. That’s too good a deal to pas up.
Forza Horizon. I’m with you Des- I thought GT was the greatest. But Burnout 2 and Forza 3 were both so much more fun that license tests. I hasn’t gone back to sims.
Now, if Criterion would make a Burnout proper with a real 3D crash mode, GOTY.
So a double review on Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit content this week?
since I don’t have any of the Killzone games anymore, getting 3 on a disk sounds good to me.
I’m waiting on the Medal of Honor: Warfighter reviews before I commit.
No Dance Party Disney for PS3?
The last thing I expected to see on this week’s release list was Winback: Covert Operations as a PS2 Classic. When I was growing up, my friends and I would spend hours playing the multiplayer in the N64 version. At the time, tactical 3rd person shooters with four-player split-screen were rather uncommon, so we soaked it up like sponges. Whenever we played, two of my friends and I would stick another friend of ours with a character in the game that we so lovingly called “Chubby Legs”. Popular battlecries of the Winback Four-Player Wars included “IT’S CHUBBY LEGS! SHOOT HIM!”, “THE SHOTGUN IS MINE!”, and the all-time classic, “FUCK YOU!”. Good times.
That was the first cover based shooter I remember. Good fun.
Who had the chubby legs? I don’t remember anymore. It’s been years since I played Winback for N64.
The guy’s name is Mike. Here’s a picture of him.
Pat is that you?
Blue, your new nickname should be BlazBlueSwim. If you like it give me a shoutout on the show.
BlazBlueSwim is my Ultimate/Super Saiyan form. LOL!
I’m gonna get Forza Horizon. Apparently it helps you learn how to drive. 🙂
Maybe if you’re going to do some off-roading.
This is the Sailor Moon Chevy Camero in Forza 4 I mentioned in my pick, just in case you thought I was joking.
Oh shit!
I thought you were talking about a real car! HA!
