New Releases: Week of March 6, 2011

Confrontations abound in this week’s new releases. Whether players are battling vile Darkspawn, rival  Pokémon trainers, or wicked curveballs, a wide variety of adversaries await players. Surprisingly, these showdowns aren’t limited to the current generation of consoles. With two baseball titles, the PS2 once again displays its remarkable resiliency.

DesertEagle’s Pick: As a huge fan of both Origins and Awakenings I expected to play the Dragon Age II demo until my 360 red-ringed. Instead, my single play-through was marked with indifference. Hopefully, the trial wasn’t an accurate impression of the full game. As such, I’m going to have to give the nod to Torchlight this week; my console is craving some Diablo-esque looting and leveling.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Pokemon White is fantastic. Just don’t
expect a lot of surprises or plot twists. If it wasn’t already in my DS,
I’d be picking it up Sunday morning. (stay tuned for our double review!)

Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. DA2. I liked the demo, but it was quite different. Seems like it’s trying to get mass appeal, instead of catering to geeks. (No offense)

  2. God, I can’t imagine how The $1,000,000 Pyramid would play for the life of me.

  3. I feel like I missed some of DAII content because I didn’t preorder, so I’ll probably wait until it drops to $30 or so.

  4. Bunnyz Bunch uses clone..it’s not very effective.

    Pokemon Black uses brainwash…it’s super-effective.

    Bunnyz Bunch faints.

  5. YooStar actually looks like it will be fun. Do you guys know the price of additional scenes?

  6. I’m confused- I thought there were two editions of Dragon Age- One for people who preordered before January.

  7. I have it on PS2 and Wii, but I’ll get Phantom Brave for PSP just to take it on the go.

  8. Which is the baseball game to get this year? I tried both demos and they both seem really good.

  9. We’ll have a review up shortly, but it’s really good. Squirtle isn’t in the main quest (only new Pokemon are in the main quest) but all of the new Pokemon are really great.

  10. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I hope the people who created this screwed up preorder program read this

  11. I don’t know Deagle- Dragon Age II is getting great review scores. You might be wrong about this one.

  12. Why are you just plugging White NOLA? You know once you go Pokemon Black you never go back, right?

  13. Ive been waiting for Dragon Age II for forever it seems like. I really hope this one is as good at the first and they didn’t totally dumb it down.

DesertEagle- Did you know you could pause battles and give orders> It’s not the same a turn based, but any bit of strategy is better than none, right?

  14. I’m interested in Atari’s Greatest Hits Volume 2. Anyone have a final list of the game on it?
