Podcast 13-2 Two and Half Graymers

13-2 Graymers

In this very special two-part episode of the Tech-Gaming Podcast, the crew shirks their typical professionalism, to offer an analysis on the next-gen console war. E3 surprises, disappoints, and a discussion of ‘swag hags’ ensues, with at least one member unhappy about their new title. Listen now for impressions of Forza 5, Driveclub, Knack, and Killzone:Mercenary, and tune in next week for new game impressions, trivia, and a new installment of Indie Outlook.

    1. Missing in action?

Quick, rescue Private Nola, kill the enemies, eat the free sushi and get the hell out of there.

  1. I’m guessing they all go with the PS4. Jeremy is a Sony Shill and Robert and Blue love Japanese games. Sage hates MS. Sean didn’t even have a Xbox, if I remember.

  2. Thanks for non getting on the MS defense brigade like CheapyD. I used to look up to the guy, now he’s defending MS. Maybe Major Nelson gave him a quick BJ at Pachter’s party.

    1. If you’re talking about CheapyD blog post it was more about pointing out how gamers are misguided than standing up for MS. MS had to change their gameplan after Sony announced theirs.

  3. Wow, Robert really brought every MS problem to the table. 8 years worth.

    Totally forgot about Velocity Girl.

    1. Is this the same guy who was indifferent about the hardware?

Seems like he’s trolling for attention this week, last he didn’t seem to care that much.

    2. Deagle made some good points about MS, but I think only a small percentage of gamers (Graymers?) remember that. People forgot after a few months.

    3. Yeah, no one ever remembers the PSN break in except you guys.

Red rings happened in 2006, 6 year ago. Most of my friends that were 22 then are 28 now. A lot have wives and kids, and mortgages. So they don’t play games anymore.

    4. Yeah it was a bit heavy handed if you ask me. What company hasnt made mistakes? Seems l8ke he expects perfection.

      1. If the internet had been this widespread in the 80s, how many people in this demographic would we have on record swearing off Coca-Cola products after the New Coke or Coke II fiascoes?

        1. I had to look up New Coke and Coke II.

Question: What the hell was Coca-cola thinking?!?!

  4. No interview, impressions, or Indie Outlook this week?

And it’s still almost an hour? Good god.

    1. Before editing and not including Indie Outlook, the recording ran about three hours.

      1. Wow, that’s about the longest podcast I’ve ever heard of. Probably a good thing you cut it down.

I’m looking forward to IO as well.

    2. Yay, at least ONE person cares about Indie Outlook. This comment alone just made my week :p ♥

      1. greeting from Iceland. I want to say I like Indie Outlook. Maybe my favorite part of the show. Rob and Say are great together.

      2. You guys rock! I really like Indie Outlook. Its a treat.

My only complaint is that it’s too short.

  5. I’m glad I’m not the only one who throws up a little when the term “ecosystem” is thrown around.

With Sony half the time your PSP games don’t work on the Vita, sometimes you download a Vita game on your PS3 and it won’t transfer. PS2 games only work if you have an old system or rebuy them from PSN. That’s not an ecosystem is a collection of gadgets that sometimes work together and more often don’t.

    1. True. Doesn’t a ecosystem sustain life by everyone giving and getting something? Last time I checked my 360 was entertaining me, but hardly keeping me alive.

    2. If you’re using the term ‘ecosystem’ to talk about your electronics, you’re just parroting the corporate mouthpieces, IMHO.

  6. I know everyone likes longer podcasts, but you should shoot for an hour, every week.

  7. Robert’s comments about Microsoft are a joke.

Dude, did you really want to make skate clothes and play with a little boy? Pedos like you only play games to attack kids I bet.

  8. Speaking of empty promises, Sony assured PS1 BC for the Vita. They gave us a handful of titles then went on to forget about it.

  9. I think my problem with Sage is that she doesn’t back up her opinions. Its just her take on things. I think Robert and Jeremy do a good job and Blue a lesser, but listening to Sage just makes me want to punch the wall.

    1. Unfortunately, Sage speaks what I read on every media outlet. My job partially entails having to read and quantify data daily in which voices like Sage represents pretty much how most gamers feel – while Jeremy and Robert represent an editorial point of view. Blue is just Blue, everyone likes Blue no matter what he says.

      1. Yeah hes impossible not to like. Hes a coca cola on a hot day or a kitten thats stretching.

        1. Those might be the most awesome compliments I’ve ever received. Thank you, freddy-Kun and Say-Chan! ^_^

  10. Perhaps I should explain the “Hentai is justice!” line from the beginning. It originates from a live-action adaptation of the manga Hentai Kamen. I discovered the trailer while I was cruising Hulu Plus earlier this week. Without a shadow of a doubt, it was the craziest fucking thing I’ve seen in a very long time. Totally NSFW, totally hilarious.

  11. Never heard the term Graymer before. I see it means an old person who doesn’t game much.

    1. I know I’m old – but I sure as hell never head of “Graymer” before until today, lol.

      1. I think Robert called the site “Screwed Attack”.

        Not sure if serious.

Sage, you got kicked out of Ubisoft AGAIN?

  12. I’d like to think Deagle gives away his swag shirts to be nice, but part of me think he gets a kick about people smoking crack while advertising Xbone.

Also, you were way to hard on Sage for swag. Sounds like you set her up.

  13. Is it me or did Jeremy sound extra corporatized this week? I like his game impressions, but when he talks about the industry, he’s condescending.

    Also: Vita need more games.

    1. I dunno. I was just saying what came naturally.

What about the industry is condescending? That there are actual smart people making decisions on a business level that Internet People might disagree with?

      Tell me more.

      1. Well, not sure is business people have any more smarts than those Internet people. I mean look at Wii U and Vita sales. Look at how most games drop 50% in price in two months. Look at all the layoffs in the industry, usually along with price drops.

    1. I bet this was some disagreement at E3. The timing is too close. I wonder if this has to do with Robert not smiling at E3.

      1. I’m sorry but hearing this shit pisses me off.

Robert is a mega-douche. Guy gets to go to E3, see all the latest games. Then we hear we never smiles except for free shit. Then he comes and trashed Microsoft. What a great guy.

Sean gets into E3 for being a podcaster (I don’t think we writes reviews or does anything elsehwere. correct me if I’m wrong) and then bails out two weeks later.

Im amazed anyone of you still read the shitty reviews here.

        1. Maybe Robert was steping into “Arthur Gies”, I’m bald, serious, and cynical mode.

        2. Wow, man easy up. I think you’re being a bit hard. Reviews and journalists aren’t there to smile and make friends, they are there to work and give us honest impressions. I think they’re doing a good job at that with the E3 articles and the podcasts.

    2. Whoa whoa whoa, easy there! Robert and I didn’t have any sort of falling out, I was just giving my reasoning for not returning to the podcast! Above all, I want to make sure we’re providing good content, and I don’t think adding ANOTHER voice to an already crowded roster does that. I’m touched that you all miss me, and maybe eventually we’ll figure out a way to make that happen, but as it stands it wouldn’t be fair to the other hosts for me to muscle my way back in and say “Okay, I’m back. Good job keeping my seat warm, Blue/Jeremy/Say/Ryan/Sage, but now that I’m here, you need to sit out for awhile.” We’ve talked in the past about having some sort of rotating roster, but (and I’m speaking for myself here) it’s hard to know where I will be (both physically and personally) in a month’s time, thanks to my job. Frankly, I think that Jeremy, Blue, Robert and Sage should be commended for their dedication to the show – it’s a lot harder than you’d think to commit 3 hours of your week to sitting down and having a focused, uninterrupted conversation.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I left due to extenuating circumstance, but I’ve chosen not to come back, in order to provide a better show for you guys. When I initially left the show, it was entirely for personal reasons – my job was in a state of flux, I was working late hours and had to be ready to travel at a moment’s notice. Whether or not I would be available to record was always a game-time decision, and that wasn’t fair to the other hosts. A lot of shows were cancelled because I couldn’t make it, especially right after Adam left. There was a period when it seemed like it might not have been a bad idea to just cancel the show. We brought in new hosts as substitutes, they were amazing, so we kept them on. As the roster grew, so did the show, and the format has changed. Now, things in my personal life have started to calm down somewhat, but I also understand that the responsible thing to do is to find ways of contributing outside the show. Too many voices will lead to confusion; It’s the reason the Avengers try to keep their active roster to 8 members, and it’s the reason I don’t want to add another voice to our already robust team.

I don’t want to disappoint you, but I also didn’t want you to think that Robert and I were having some kind of feud. He’s one of my most trusted friends, and I would hope that we wouldn’t let a difference of opinion on podcast formats come between us.

      1. I liked Ryan when he was on the show (once, right), but he wasn’t on again.

To be perfectly honest, I listen for new game impressions. Robert hit the big games, Jeremy gives a GREAT mix of big and obscure, Blue hit the occasional retro game, but Sage doesn’t really talk about any new games. Why couldn’t you and Sage trade off shows?

Oh, and maybe add another person to Indie Outlook. Or branch that off into it’s own show. I don’t know too many podcasts that just focus on indies.

        1. I really think that, for the reasons you listed, the current roster is the best. Robert constantly has new games to talk about, and Jeremy does a great job of picking up the lesser-knowns. Blue has enough personality that he contributes even when he’s talking about Persona 3 for the 5th week in a row, and Sage covers a lot of PC games that no one would hear about otherwise. If we’re being completely honest, if I were on the show, I’d be talking a lot about GameBoy Advance games, since that’s most of what I have been playing lately.

          1. Between that and NES games, that’s what Nintendo pumping out for Wii U and 3DS support!

      2. Robert, why was podcast hosting done without listening to the listeners?

Maybe some kind of voting system could be done. I’d like to hear Ryan at least once more, and Sean come on at least once in a while.

Spoiler: Having Adam on indie outlook would seem like a good idea, too.

        1. “it’s hard to know where I will be (both physically and personally) in a month’s time, thanks to my job.”

So I think, Sean’s out. Maybe you can try to make a impromptu appearance once in a while.

  14. Good E3 talks this week. I like the short format. When’s the other part going live?

  15. You know I’m starting to get worried about the launch libraries of both systems. People are plunking down hundreds and I don’t see a single must have app.

    1. I’m not too worried about the libraries of either system, myself. We get worked into a pretty good lather about killer apps and “this system has NO GAEMS” but the library will come, in either case.

Don’t spend any money until you’re ready to commit, sure, but there will be plenty to do.

  16. I think Nintendo’s stealth approach and dropping the game bombs worked reasonably well. People are talking, good things to boot!

    1. Yeah the Wii U hardware isn’t the freshest or most powerful but they will have the software to drive sales this holiday.
