Podcast 14-1: Ring Rust
This week, Eric joins the boys of Summer, Robert becomes one of Destiny’s Children, Jeremy lets loose with a pent-up pile of game impressions, and Sage transforms Transistor impressions into an onslaught of innuendo. Beyond discussions of Terrorhedron, Mega Coin Squad, and Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake on IndieOutlook, we also take time out for gaming trivia as well as answer listener mail.
To celebrate The Tech-Gaming Podcast’s return from Summer hiatus, we’re also giving away some games! To win one of two copies of Gravity Crash, just leave the title of your favorite vector graphics (or faux VG) game. To score a copy of Wario Land 2 for the 3DS (courtesy of D-Go), simply post the title of your favorite platformer. And in the interest of helping Jeremy overcome his aversion to all things wonderful, don’t forget to name a few of your favorite anime titles, so we can begin to battle his stubbornness before it’s too late.

Wow, I thought the podcast was cancelled! It’s been too long.
That show art. I’m predicting some LOTR/Vajayjay talk.
Oh dear.
Downloading now.
For the contests, Asteroids, Super Mario World
Code Geass, Samurai Champloo, Azumanga Daioh.
Listened to about 10 minutes. Much better sound quality so far!
I noticed that too! Nice work!
I’m guessing Jeremy said something negative about anime. So here’s my preemptive list of favorites:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Death Note
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
Fate/Zero
Fairy Tail
lol, well, I don’t think it was NEGATIVE, but I guess we’ll see what the community verdict is. I welcome all efforts to set me straight. I love good TV!
Hey, quick last-minute note. On the date the podcast was published (9/13), Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is the Amazon Android App Store free app of the day. http://amzn.to/YEEV1X
I paid $5 for it, it went on sale for 99 cents the next week, and now it’s free. But I’ll just say I don’t feel TOO bad about the $5.
Thanks!
I love the Amazon FATD sale. I’m up to 1,000 apps now. I just wish there was a bettter way to sort through the ones you own. Scrolling takes forever on the the device.
Thanks for the heads up, Jeremy. Downloaded, seems fun so far.
Yay for a new podcast! Can’t wait to listen!
Tempest, was the best VG game of all time. There is no room for argument, unless you try to bring up Major Havoc.
Thanks for getting back together for us again. Hope the schedule keeps up.
Jeremy: get on it!
😮
At least he didn’t say they “look like 12 years olds”.
That pic.
Pretty much agree with Robert’s take on Destiny. Especially the skill tree thing. I didn’t think about it, but looking back, it’s kind of dumb.
I kind of game up on anime. Seems like they cater too much too fans now. But I feel the same with movies. Marvel is pure fan-service, which gets old after a while.
Robert, it’s “Game of show” not GOTY! You said that twice.
GOTY is only given out after the game is played and reviewed.
Wow, a 2 and a half hour show? Downloading but I may not have the time to listen to this entire beast!
I really need to play Transistor. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the game. How long is it?
*snerk*
Sorry, force of habit.
Haha. I think “Rabbit” is Jeremy setting himself up.
One great anime I forgot to mention on the show that I’d recommend to you, Jeremy, is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The series is about a guy named Kyon (who acts as the narrator) and his day-to-day encounters with a bossy, hyperactive, eccentric classmate (Haruhi) with God-like powers unbeknownst to her. It’s a deceptively deep anime. If you go in expecting the typical, run-of-the-mill sci-fi anime, it’ll blow your expectations out of the water. The dub is EXCELLENT, too. I dare say watch it dubbed the first time through. Haruhi is on my “Top-10 Best Animes Ever” list. Maybe even the top-5. I try to watch it about once a year.
I’m pretty sure the old T-G web icon was Haruhi.
Go anime or go home, I say.
Maison Ikkoku
Urusei Yatsura
Perfect Blue
Ranma ½
Redline
Watch any those of those and get back to us.
I like Robert’s Indie banter more than his regular show banter.
Also: Terrorhedron is balls hard. You might want to mention that.
Jeremy has cajones the size of bowling balls to come on the show and say anime is just allright.
My favorite part of the show was when everyone cornered him and asked him to name anime. Straight up bullying going on there!
:’-| I’m a victim of anime.

I would like to subscribe to your newsletter, sir.
Jump to page 3 for the lolita pics.
I just listened to your show. I can tell it was fake. Why would you have someone complain (ever so softly) about anime on a site that focuses on anime and japanese games. The simple answer is controversy. So I’ll play your game to win prizes but I’m going to listen anymore.
GC- Battlezone
Wario- Any Mario game.
I’ll believe it wasn’t scripted until there’s proof showing otherwise.
You can tell what’s scripted. Sage, Robert, and Jeremy’s notes. Sai’s too. But the mail questions aren’t. They come up with answers on the spot or mispronounce games (Mark of Kri)
Blue is completely unscripted, and he should prep a bit more.
I try to make notes, but this time I got to talking about Vita games I finished weeks ago instead of what I was actually intending to talk about (EDF2025).
Why didn’t you talk about EDF then? It does seem like the others write more down.
I don’t know how much of what Jeremy, Robert, and Say says is reading, but it’s a little more organized. At least until people call a E3 Game of Show, a Game of the Year. 😉
I’m easily distracted by shiny things. 😛
In-truth, I couldn’t remember if I had talked about 2025 on the show already or not, so I spontaneously winged it with what I knew I hadn’t mentioned about before. I always feel a pressure to talk about newer releases on the show because whenever I discuss older games I’m playing, people tend to complain in the comments.
I think you and Robert (and maybe Lamont) should play an older game once in a while. Some of us like retro games, you know!
I’d love to do that!
Well, I mentioned that I’ve got Suikoden on my PSP and that I just played Chrono Trigger for the first time earlier this year.
I’ve been playing a few Game Boy games on 3DS, so maybe I’ll talk about those next time! Thanks kookaburra!
NP!
All those sound like good picks. Especially Suikoden (which I never played but always hear people raving about)
Actually most of the show is not scripted. We dont have time to do show scripts. Case in point, i almost never have notes for my impressions, and i didnt have any for this show. And Matt, while Jeremy does occassionally troll, we always comment when he does. Its not fake-I don’t know how long you’ve been listening, but Jeremy’s never been as much into the anime and jrpg as the rest of us.
Yeah, Ive been listening for a while and I think their personalities are consistent. Whether that’s really “them” is another issue, but I’d bet that Blue is really into wrestling and Robert loves Disgaea.
You probably telling the truth but it seems strange that there’s always at least one hardcore innuendo per show. I can see how people think its staged.
Jeremy, I’d like to hear you and Sean talk some SSD!
Games: Asteroids Deluxe, Donkey Kong
SSD it shall be!
Yeah, seconded.
I’m down.
There’s no “probably”. She is telling the truth.
As for the innuendos, people obviously underestimate our comically-dirty minds and keen sense of timing. 😉
I won’t be able to listen to Monday, but the comments are keeping me busy.
I haven’t had a lot of fun listening to a podcast lately (Giant Bomb and Cheapassgamer have fallen off my playlists), but I did like your show. It seems like everyone is actually having a good time with it even when you don’t feel the same way. To me that’s what makes a podcast.
I blame the children for ruining the Cagcast. Shitting your pants is funny, but changing diapers isn’t.
When they stopped railing on Major Nelson, the show lost its spark.
Here’s what Jeremy is calling them out on- something I’ve been guilty of doing:
Thinking “If it’s Japanese, if must be good”. They make some great stuff, but a lot of really weak stuff as well.
We should kickstart a help Jeremy fund, or at least send him torrent links.
Good show. I really liked Indie Outlook. Lots of games I haven’t heard of.
good show. whats tbe real reason it took so long?
Best VG game=Tempest
Best platformer=Sonic 1
Update the RSS feed, suckas!
I think Robert is going to Grace Chen it and pull the switch on Tuesday at 9:14 PM EST.
IT’S UP!
My feed went live at 2:00 PM but it could because I wasn’t connect to wifi.
Im waiting for the spanish dubbed episode with special guest Felipe Pescado 😛
I wouldn’t hold your breath over that one judging by the monster “noise”.
Great episode btw 😀
Jeremy’s banishment of Disgaea to the flacid card made me fall in love with him all over again. #swoon
Also, glad that Sage has taken up groaning where I left off. I’m so proud of you guys!
Sage brought the impression this week! Great job staying focused. Jeremy, Disgaea is a game most people never finish. They’re either turned off by the concept or its just too long.
I don’t understand why you all own Disgaea, it’s installed on your Vita, but you don’t like it.
Please explain.
And Sage’s part did seem preplanned. The stick it in one of three slots bit couldn’t have been accidental. But still funny.
Sean’s never liked Disgaea. I’m sure Robert peer pressured him into playing.
I think Disgaea 2 or 3 was free for PS+ at one point. Unlike Jeremy, I am in the 8GB ghetto, so I don’t play as fast and loose with my storage.
Time to upgrade, bro. You can get 64 GB for 70.
Just make sure you have enough room for Delta.
Just finished listening. No Ring Rust at all. Everyone fell right into their grooves.
Terrorhedron is monsterously difficult. Why, Robert, why?
Space war
Sonic The Hedgehog
I love anime. Always have, probably always will. There’s something about it that’s missing from other mediums.
