  1. MOAR Castlevania hatred?

Watch out Deagle, you may be the miniboss in the next game if you keep this up.

  2. Deagle, did Sony flat out say, “we’re not giving you a code for Galaxy Crash Portable?”

If so, that sucks, your guys review was one of the best ones for the game.

  3. Does you ever followup with how it tastes and if the flavor combination improved your NIS hating skillz?

  4. The fact that your guys are dropping huge amounts on money to be voice actors in a second string video game means you fail….

….the “let’s flaunt how much money I’m making, bitches” test 😉

  5. SeanNOLA- 30 somethings (the editors) like Scott Pilgrim (the movie and game) because it shows video games are cool. They grew up in a generation when games were nerdy.

TideGear: The references aren’t obscure enough. So it’s just mainstream. Who cares?

Deagle- Scott Pilgrim (The movie and maybe game) were created to cash in on the popularity of gaming, indie music, and the 20-ish vibe. It’s not genuine.

Sean seems to agree saying there’s peer pressure to like the movie.

  6. I don’t know about the comic, but the Scott Pilgrim movie just seems uninteresting to me. Hell, If I’m going to spend $12 bucks on a ticket to catch a few game references. I’d rather buy an actual game with the money.

  7. The Scott Pilgrim debate went over my head.

Deagle didn’t like Kill Bill? That’s a surprise.

  8. This debate seems like a Weekend Confirmed Brian Lahey vs. Garnett discussion.

    in other words, good stuff.

  9. Deagle this is what is wrong with film critics:

“Put simply: Scott Pilgrim is a blast! The total package is a wildly comic journey into the head of a true original. If you are under 25 you will find all of it really, really funny.”

    Boxoffice Magazine, Pete Hammond

  10. The correct answer is all the above.

I won’t pay to see this. Like NOLA said all the bloggers are pushing the hype machine like they did with Snakes on a Plane.

  11. I never gave the Scott Pilgrim debate much thought. I felt like the comic was good, but when they made the move (and game tie-in) it lost a little bit of it’s coolness, and I stopped being interested.

I know that’s kind of a hipster mentality, maybe I’ll rethink things.

  12. My mom liked your voice, Desert. LOL.

Good trivia this week. I see the guys don’t like sports games.

  13. Ya’ll are overthinking Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It’s love, kung-fu, and games all rolled into one. Get over it.

  14. NOLAs Scott Pilgrim vs. The World(The game) analysis is dead freakin’ on. This guys knows his brawlers.

  15. NOLA drinks the silly shit so we don’t have to.

I hope you bought that for the show.

  16. Quarterman got the jist of it:

Basically, the comic is a good read, and if your in your twenties, whether you consider yourself a gamer or not, you’ll understand most of the references because that is what middle-class North Americans in this generation grew up with. If you are in your 30s, then you remember the NES being that nerdy thing you did and got dunked in the toilet for, but for the younger generation, it was something we all just HAD. Douglas Coupland references video games off the cuff in his books because he is speaking to a generation that understands the references. We don’t need to justify it for him, that’s just the way we were raised, and he knows that. Referencing moments in gaming is neat, but not deserving of the attention we’ve been lavishing onto every detail of Scott Pilgrim.

Before the debate gets started, I really DO like the comic, and I probably WILL see the movie (despite my hatred for Michael Sera and Juno). My criticism does not lie with Bryan Lee O’Malley but with the VIDEO GAME journalists who think that a reference to video games in comics, movies, commercials, books etc is news-worthy, and the overwhelming blog peer-pressure trying to turn an appreciation for a comic into polarizing social currency.

  17. Hmmm…yes…a nice citrus aroma…hm….I can taste the cane sugar and….I believe there is a slight hint of prinny tears. Delish! 😉

  18. You do realize that you’ve added gas to the SP engine by the podcast and discussion, right? What makes you guys any better or worse than the Generation Geek?

I’m not trying to be mean, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

  19. lol, good one NOLA. But Prinnies don’t have tears, dood. The water would ruin the explosion when they are thrown.

  20. OMG! MIND BLOWN! Yea, you’re kinda right, but I’ll be honest: I just like discussing stuff with you guys. I’m not afraid to admit my own hypocrisy and I can see how creating a dialog about games journalists reporting on things that are not news as being just that. On the other hand, it’s just the comments section and not another article for you guys to wade through.

  21. I was a total nerd growing up, glued to my Commodore 64, Atari 800, Colecovision, Intellivison, and NES. Acquaintances became friends by sharing the same passions, so in my twisted worldview, games were the norm. In this way, I have more in common with the younger generation. I guess that’s why I’m still gaming.

  22. Just heard Deagle get two shootouts during the Cagcast. They seem to love him more than Tide and Nola do.
